Ang Ku Kueh, which translates as "Red Tortoise Cake," is a little oval-shaped Chinese dessert that originated in Fujian, China before coming to Southeast Asia. To have longevity and good fortune, tortoise-shaped desserts are to be offered to Chinese gods during festive events and on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar calendar.

As the name implies, Ang Ku Kueh are generally crimson in color and chewy when eaten. In Chinese tradition, the color red symbolize joy and happiness. And the tortoise shape signifies longevity, auspiciousness, prosperity and wholeness. It is the perfect auspicious gift for opening ceremonies, baby full month and birthday celebrations.

Storage:

Keep Frozen (-18°C)
Do not refreeze after thawing.

Caterer Packaging:

Each packet has 43g x 8 pcs
Each carton contains 18 packs.

Cooking Instructions:

1. Remove from freezer. Do not defrost.
2. Remove Ang Ku Kueh from the tray.
3. Place each Ang Ku Kueh onto the green silicon coated paper provided.
4. Brush a thin layer of oil on frozen Ang Ku Kueh.
5. Pre-heat the steaming equipment until vapour is released.
6. Steam Ang Ku Kueh for 12 minutes in electric steamer or steam in high flame for 6 minutes and with medium flame for 6 minutes.
7. Ready to serve.

    When can I buy it from the supermarkets in Singapore? I wanted to buy it for my grandson’s first month celebration. I will just give a packet for each relative.
